    But is it effective?

    Grass-roots sharing aside, this is expensive. As its effectiveness would be almost impossible to quantify, this type of campaign would probably only be used by v. large corporations. Yes?

    Also, younger aud.s (to generalise) are far more critically engaged with the media they consume. Is this being over-looked? Could I not recognise that this is a viral marketing scheme and choose to disassociate the medium from the (intended) message?
