Six Sigma and/or Lean certification in the UK – HELP!?

Six Sigma and/or Lean certification in the UK – HELP!?

Can someone please explain certification in Six Sigma and/or Lean techniques please? I have been trying to find out about this but no one seems to know.

Quite a few consulting jobs via recruitment agencies require 'Six Sigma' certified or 'Lean Six Sigma' but there does not appear to be an accreditation body, at least not in the UK. What is to stop people (i.e. me) from reading a book and claiming to be 'Six Sigma' certified? Given that there is no accreditation body, how do they check?

    Hi There,

This is a good question as there’s no single, centralized organization for Six Sigma certification. One of the leading management certification groups is the ASQ (American Society for Quality) which is also a leading group in offering Quality Management (QM) certification. Six Sigma actually emerged in Motorola in the 1980s, so the practice is, still, a bit decentralized; many companies offer in-house training and certification. The companies are most likely looking for experienced professionals who have earned in-house training at previous jobs. Try contacting HR at the consulting firms to check what level of Sigma experience they are looking for.
